Muslim Council of Calgary - Relief Centre
Communications Specialist
As the Communications Specialist for the Muslim Council of Calgary (MCC), I was in charge of establishing an internal and external communications strategy from the ground up.

The internal communications process included collaborating with team members from other departments to help create policies, apply for grants, and plan events. The internal communications plan also included setting up protocols in the areas of event planning, policy approval, and internal reports.

The external communications strategy focused on rebranding, social media, and public relations. As part of this plan, I created a branding strategy and template to be applied to the organization's charity, the MCC Relief Centre. This template included both a redesigned primary logo and brand new secondary logo and a new color palette to reflect the service-based mission of the organization.

As part of the external communications plan, new social media channels were established. Two new Instagram pages were created, one to serve as the official Instagram page for the organization and the other as a volunteer highlight page. I created content concepts and posts for both pages.

I was also responsible for public relations. This was particularly important as the organization was recovering and rehabilitating their image. In this capacity, I established relationships with local journalists and reporters, set up interviews for events and board members, and created and distributed press releases.
